Scouting
For Food 2008
Nov 21, 2008 - The Cubs of Pack 731 collected a very large amount
of food for the North Reading food pantry. They also made a generous
donation of goods to Local
Heroes. The cubs showed they really know how to sow "Seeds
of Kindness"!
Veteran's
Day 2008
Nov 11, 2008 - 17 Tigers, Cubs & Webelos braved a cool and
blustery day to pay tribute to those who have served our country
at the annual North Reading Veteran's Day Ceremony on the Town Common.
They were a great addition to Boy Scout Troop 750 who were the honor
guard for the VFW. Everyone there knew that Scouting is alive &
well in North Reading!
Pack
Outing to the Lawrence Eagle Tribune
Oct 22, 2008 - 32 Tigers, Cubs & Webelos enjoyed a tour of
the Lawrence Eagle Tribune. Do you know how much aluminum the newspaper
uses each year? Ask a Scout!
Another
Great year for Popcorn Sales!
October 2008 - The first weekend in October found the Scouts camped
outside of Stop & Shop selling many cans and boxes of yummy
Trail's End Popcorn to support the activities of the Pack and Boston
Minuteman Council. This can of popcorn was soon sold to a happy
customer. The little Scout buddy in the box went off to camp at
Sudden Pond later that day...
When the final order sheets were turned in, the Cubs had sold almost
$10,000 (retail) worth of popcorn - Way to go Cubs!
Adventures
in Reading
Oct 17, 2008 - The Pack enjoyed a presentation from North Reading's
Children's Librarian and a Book Swap at our recent meeting. Every
boy went home with 2 new-to-him books, and many boxes of books were
also donated to the library book sale to help support all the library
services. Read On Cubs!
Sudden
Pond Camp Out 2008
June 21, 2008 - Pack 731 ended our 2007-2008 year with one of
our favorite events - camping at Sudden Pond. Over 75 cubs and family
members had a great time fishing, hiking, carving, crafting and
knot tying. Mrs. Spicer led us in a fun campfire with skits and
songs and a guest appearance by Mr. I. The scouts also participated
in a moving flag retirement ceremony. The night was capped off by
the old camp favorite, s'mores!
Memorial
Day Parade 2008
May 26, 2008 was a bright, sunny day which saw a large number
of Cub Scouts from Pack 731assemble to march in North Reading's
Memorial Day parade, including several new spring recruits! Reports
from the parade route were "Great looking Pack!" and "Thank
you for the flag!" Great job Cubs!
Blue
and Gold Banquet
A great time was had by all at the Blue & Gold brunch held
at the Hillview. A little rainy weather couldn't dampen the spirits
of all the Cubs who have been working hard all year on their achievements.
Special thanks to Mrs. Gonthier, Mrs. Stats and the rest of the
committee for all their organizing and decorating! We were sorry
to say goodbye to a few leaders who are moving on to Boy Scouts
- Mr. Intorcio and Mr. Furst. We also bid a fond farewell to the
Korstanje family who are returning home to the Netherlands after
3 years with us. We hope they will think of us whenever they use
their "Dutch oven"
